The Hana-kage or flowers shadow series from Zhou Zheng Wu offers a great functional sword for the beginning student. The blade is made of a mono tempered 1050 high carbon steel that is forged folded (pattern welded). The blade cutting edge is hardened to 56 HRC and is machine polished that produces a nice subtle hada with an etched hamon. The handle has real same' panels and is single pegged for security. The saya is finished in a gloss black lacquer, while the fittings are made in plain brass fuchi/kashira. And the 3" iron tsuba is made in a pierced blossom motif with copper centers an in antiqued appearance. The menuki are brass in a shi-shi (lion) and peony (flower) design. You have the choice of natural or gloss black lacquerd same and choice in silk ito and sageo.
